The Fiddlers of the Genesee, Inc. (FOG) is a non-profit music club devoted to the preservation of the "old-time" traditional music of the Genesee Valley in Upstate New York.
The club was founded in August, 1991, at the Fiddlers' Fair at the Genesee Country Village and Museum. Its members have met almost every week since then to learn new tunes, play old ones, and in general enjoy music and musical friendships.
FOG is dedicated to preserving the traditional old-time music of the Genesee Valley of New York by:
- Learning the music, using instruments (such as fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo) that have been used over the past 200 years;
- Performing the music, we hope in a competent manner, so that our audiences can enjoy and also learn about the music;
- Encouraging other inviduals and groups to play the music in this way; and
- Educating ourselves and our audiences on the tradition, on the tunes, and on some of the historical players of the music.
